Road House (2024)

 "Road House" 2024 is fun - the pacing is uneven, the one-liners are silly, and the fight cam footage is nauseating, but it is a fun ride. 2024 is less gonzo than 1989. Billy Magnussen, Conor McGregor, and Joaquim de Almeida are acting in a cartoon - they are a real hoot and stand out of place as compared to all of the other characters. I was hoping there would be 2 throwback lines: "A polar bear fell on me" and/or "Pain don't hurt", but I was disappointed.

Waiting for Gadot (1961)

 It took me 3 passes to get through "Waiting for Gadot" (1961). Zero Mostel and Burgess Meredith were Gogo and Didi respectively. I totally get why this is a classic. You can use the characters as a cypher for just about whatever philosophy suits you best.

Breathless (1960) & Breakin2: Electric Boogaloo (1984)

 I took a journey -  "Breathless" (1960) is one of the iconic French New Wave movies. "Breakin2: Electric Boogaloo" (1984) is an iconic American Dance Musical. Watching them back-to-back may require a medical intervention. I do wonder which has done more for popular culture: * "Breathless" brought mainstream attention to French movie making. And I do love a good nihilistic character study. * Without [B2: EB] - we would not have the 'snowclone' template for all sequels. For instance, in this current presidential year, we have Trump2: Electric Boogaloo ... I mean, you can't put a price on that. If you are looking for more conventional pairings -  -- "Breathless" and "Vivre sa vie": both are Goddard films, beautiful to experience, and pose the audience with philosophical questions and tragic endings.  -- "Breakin2: Electric Boogaloo" and "Ninja 3: The Domination"*: both are Cannon Group films, the female lea...
